“you create your opportunities by asking for them”  ― Shakti Gawain

“The people we are in relationship with are always a mirror, reflecting our own beliefs, and simultaneously we are mirrors, reflecting their beliefs. So…  relationship is one of the most powerful tools for growth…. If we look honestly at our relationships, we can see so much about how we have created them.”  ― Shakti Gawain

Hearing the tinkling of the music, the children in our neighborhood knew the ice cream man with his crisp white uniform would soon be stopping at the corner.  In the 1950s, he was the friendly family man who would sit waiting while we, the kids, ran inside for our nickels (yes, nickels, 5 cents) so we could buy the fudgesicles, creamsickles, rocket pops he sold us.   I ran upstairs but my mother, already in the middle of preparing dinner, said no, we were too close to eating our meal.   Mad, discouraged, I sat back down on the stoop.  An bright flowering azalea drooped over the porch as well, as I sat staring down at my bright black maryjanes.  Yet something told me to just look up, stare at the ice cream man.  In a bit, when all the kids were happily eating the ice cream, he walked over. He handed me a fudgesickle without a word, went back to the truck, drove off.  Of course, I ate the popsickle but buried the stick under the azalea because I knew I wasn’t meant to have it. I was 5 years old. Yes I did something very wrong, but it taught me the power of positive thinking, of creative visualization.  We can have what we believe we can have.  ( deborahmills in Living With the Other Side 2008) .  When I was 13, I found this book.  Creative Visualization by Shakti Gawain confirmed what I instinctively knew, that positive thinking draws positive thinking.  We have to believe that we are going to have what we know we are meant to have.  We know that when time passes, the time gets longer, longer, we get so discouraged, we forget who we are.  We are good people, who are just trying to get through life the best way we can.  We have feelings, we have hopes, we yes, do make mistakes, but we get up every day to a brand new day that has 24 new hours to achieve, to work toward our goals, our dreams.

Animal totems:  millipede meaning millions of legs, teaches us to be aware of all psychic connections, relationships, to spiritual movement.  Bro Millipede tells us to watch for problems within the relationships, as all relationships have them.  Millipede can protect, increase stability ( that many legs he has to be balanced) how to move forward easily, steadily toward our goals.  Bro millipede reminds us that although time can seem slow, it is steadily moving toward the dream.  Some people are slower than others, dreams happen to late bloomers rather than in early years where we are most likely with inexperience of youth mess it up.  His medicine since he is mostly blind, tells us to listen to inner hearts, dreams rather than what may appear to be “reality’.
