People take different roads seeking fulfillment and happiness.  Just because they’re not on your road doesn’t mean they’ve gotten lost.  ~H. Jackson Brown

Happiness often sneaks in through a door you didn’t know you left open.  ~John Barrymore

Long before the Zealots, the reformers came, when the dragons still roared fire, the gods, the goddesses played with the Olympians, of Greece , of Rome, ruling with both light, darkness in each one, Mercury ( Mars) and Venus were in love.  (old translation, by Samuel Butler, of Homer’s Odyssey VIII ll. 266-369.)  Venus was married to King Vulcan, but as we know Venus, she was a flirt, sexual, but also very jealous.  So the sun, Father Sol, saw this affair, he told King Vulcan. So he devised a trap, trapping Venus, and Mercury in a net.  All the other gods came in, laughing at the pair, while Vulcan raged.  In the end, Mercury went his way, Venus her own, embarrassed, enraged, unhappy with each other.  As Mercury was the god of communication,  he was able to communicate with many other women, while Venus , a beauty also had her multiple lovers, creating jealousy, anger in each.   Often times, although many have fallen away from believing in the two lovers, the planets they rule still affect our emotions, our loves, men are from mars ( Mercury ) Women are from Venus ( John Gray, 1990).  We so often misunderstand how each thinks, where each really comes from, but when our hearts are so strong, so much in love, if we take a page from the old deities, learn lessons from their hard knocks, we can start to see the other side of the coin.  We can think about if he/she is truly the evil dark side we are thinking about this person right now, or if there is something more within that is creating our minds to play the what ifs, why nots, changing things into bigger problems than we really have in this situation, this relationship.   Other people’s ideas, thoughts, negativity, much like King Vulcan’s jealousy, rages, can create problems. Instead of thinking we are made into a fool, take each other hands, stick together, and just hang on, to the love.  We are in a time now, where Venus is direct, ruling to bring lost loves into our lives, while Mercury is going backwards in retrograde where he is trying hard to create conflicts.  The Snow Moon, the full moon last night, reunites lovers so if we can hold on to the love, we will have our dreams.

Animal totems:  Rhinoceros sticks to himself quite a bit.  He teaches us to be comfortable loving ourselves first.  His totem is ancient, going back to the times of the dragons, the gods, reminding us to learn from past experiences, past lives, the stories of old.  Brother Rhino doesn’t see that well, so his other senses are strong, giving wisdom through not just “seeing” as appearances are not always what they may appear to be.  Think, hear, smell touch feel, as well as see with the naked eye, is his medicine.
