If you want to forget all your other troubles, wear too tight shoes.  ~The Houghton Line, November 1965

If you can find a path with no obstacles, it probably doesn’t lead anywhere.  ~Frank A. Clark

Everything is running smoothly so we think in our lives.  Man, this is a breeze, where we finally have everything organized, on schedule, where we can breath a little easy.  Boom, the bottom falls out.   Here we are, another obstacle.  Where did that spring up from?   Yet, we people are extremists.  Instead of seeing this problem as a puzzle to show how smart we are in getting it fixed, or seeing where good changes are coming out of this situation, we go to the other end of despair.  We sink down so far that we can’t see round the bend.  We are often in our life’s ups, and downs act like we are already wearing our shoes too tight.  The answer, take the shoes off.  Yet in other situations most often in love situations, that answer isn’t the right one.  We are so ready to be extremists, dumping this person because the relationship hit a wall, hit a hard problem, he/she is being distant, impossible to talk to, or hard headed. Clark, reminds us that if we find a path with no obstacles , the path leads to nowhere.   We stay stuck where we are in this situation.  We aren’t married, or in a serious relationship.  The relationship is where it has always been.  The reason is we don’t want to work at it, we don’t want to face problems, we just want to sail smooth.  Change only comes with just that, change.   Allow change.  Allow obstacles.  Take off the tight shoes, but keep the love.

Animal totems:  Scorpion is a transformer.  Bringing change his totem reminds us that change can be chaotic, or calm.  His medicine tells us to make that decision.   Bro scorpion meshes life and death, light and dark, rebirth from the endings.   Changes come from the ending of the other way things were happening.  Scorpion is strong, inspiring as rebirth comes from the ending. This totem helps by receiving spiritual messages.
