Groundhog day Feb 2 – Imbolc

Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end. Seneca

Much as we may wish to make a new beginning, some part of us resists doing so as though we were making the first step toward disaster. William Throsby Bridges

It’s a wise man who understands that every day is a new beginning, because boy, how many mistakes do you make in a day? I don’t know about you, but I make plenty. You can’t turn the clock back, so you have to look ahead. Mel Gibson

Punxsutaney Phil, the groundhog didn’t see his shadow today. On Feb 2nd every year, we watch with baited breath as he comes out of his hole, looks around, then runs back in or stays out. He stayed out, since the shadow didn’t scare him back into his hole. Early spring, new beginnings, the end of winter will come. Often when our winter, our hard times start to end, we are fearful as well. When the Sun,Father Sol, the bright light in our lives comes, we can see the shadows of the past, the shadows of the unknown, so we are fearful running back into our hole where we are more comfortable. We resist the very ideas, dreams, actions that we need to happen to achieve the goals. We can move into the light with power. We can be strong with spirit to walk into the light, in spite of shadows of the past.   We can. We will. We win.

Animal totems: groundhog: Bro Groundhog, like Bro bear, is one of the animals that has a true hibernation. His totem builds a cozy nest, slows his breathing and sleeps the winter away. His totem reminds us to stay alert, strong during the cold harsh times so we can experience all of life, his medicine reminds us not to be fearful of the light.

Lady Moon is waning gibbous. This is the time to remove negativity, to walk into the light. She enters Sagittarius at 10:50 am est . Today also begin Imbolc – or St Brighids day, the Gaelic celebration of new beginnings, new spring. It is halfway between the winter equinox, and the spring equinox. To celebrate Brighid, and imbolc, incenses of benzoin, celandine, and heather are important tools. Hematite is a strong stone to keep to help balance from the old past ways.
