He who marvels at the beauty of the world in summer will find equal cause for wonder and admiration in winter…. In winter the stars seem to have rekindled their fires, the moon achieves a fuller triumph, and the heavens wear a look of a more exalted simplicity. ~John Burroughs, “The Snow-Walkers,” 1866
Father Sol works harder in the winter, in the cold. He seems further away in the sky, the heat of his burning fire seems to take longer to reach the earth. Still his light almost blinds us as the glare hits the white snow, bouncing back up to shine right in our eyes. We stumble from the bright light, jerking our head back into the shadows. Without the winter; however, we don’t appreciate the Sun, we don’t acknowledge the beauty of spring, of summer, we don’t recognize the greatness of the winter. With the bitter cold, we are thankful that Father Sol shines bright enough so our moods are somewhat brighter, we can sit in our warm homes imagining the warmth he sends to us. In our lives, many times we hit winters as well. We complain about the cold, but then in summer we complain about the heat. We get complacent when things are good, forgetting to be thankful, forgetting our spiritual walk, but soon as the winter of our lives hit, we start complaining that the Great spirit, the God, the universe, hates us, doesn’t care about us. We hit these winters of nature, so we have to stay in our houses ( our cars won’t start, lol , the roads are frozen ) so we rest, read, have time to think, reconnect with our inner spirit. In life, we hit these winters, so we have to stop on our path, look around, rest, reconnect with our inner spirit, asking where we are. Oh, we think we are spiritual enough. We believe, we do our rituals, go to our worship services, or even pray when things are good, but when everything is good, slowly we start skimping on the time spent, we start relaxing, getting way too comfortable, stagnated , without growth. In the winter of our lives, we rekindle our dreams, we renew our strength, we seek the help we need.
Animal totems: Moth: Moth is messenger totem. Bro Moth may not be as brilliantly beautiful as butterfly, but he has soft wings that gentle the blows of the messages he may bring. A single moth indicates some hidden message will be answered, revealed to you. His medicine often clears any confusion we may have, especially when we are hit over from every side with problems. We are feeling so beat up we are unsure which problem to look at first. Trust our instincts.
I am here my usual hours this am. I look forward to being the moth in lives. May the fairies dance around each of us today. Love ya, Cherokee, Cidro, Frankiecapone, Sugar Fortune cookie, T and the sweet spirit of bob and bets.
