That’s been one of my mantras – focus and simplicity. Simple can be harder than complex: You have to work hard to get your thinking clean to make it simple. But it’s worth it in the end because once you get there, you can move mountains. Steve Jobs

I feel that the simplicity of life is just being yourself. Bobby Brown

Common Core has become an interesting topic. I understand, of course, the kids CAN learn this principle, but why? There is something to be said for the actions of doing all this extra work, can teach patience, the ability, the knowledge of knowing we can do anything we set our mind to do, but still why? Two plus two equals four. End of story. Life has enough hard knocks to learn complex situations; to learn patience; so finding the reason to complicate simple issues seems a moot point. We do this in much of our lives. We want to seem spiritual, sophisticated, important, so we find the way to make the issue harder than we really need the problem to be in our lives. Simplify. Simply state calmly our ideas, thoughts, then listen. Simple. Easy. When we love, we can have compassion. When we love, we can find patience. When we love with all our heart, this act is simple. We love. We give. We move toward the dream simply.

Animal totems: Lobster: Bro Lobster looks complicated. His totem is actually pretty simple. When attacked, he just sinks into the hard shell, protecting his soft inner being. His totem reminds us to come out of our shell, gain confidence in the simple ways of handling issues. His medicine reminds us that staying calm, keeping things simple is the answer.

One of my dad’s favorite meals with sauerkraut with sausage ( he used hot dogs!). To Slavic, Germanic, Hungarian descendents, this is a tellling of the coming winter season. Here is a good recipe: 8 oz sauerkraut, 1 T. olive oil or butter, 1 small onion, 3 cloves garlic, chopped, 1 -2 apples, sliced, cored, chopped, 1 cucumber, chopped, craway or celery seeds. Saute all these together until soft . serve warm – ( diana Rajchel)
