Count the garden by the flowers, never by the leaves that fall. Count your life with smiles and not the tears that roll. ~Author Unknown
Let your love be like the misty rains, coming softly, but flooding the river. ~Malagasy Proverb
Life has taught us that love does not consist in gazing at each other but in looking outward together in the same direction. ~Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, Wind, Sand and Stars, 1939, translated from French by Lewis Galantière
Love is meant to be happy. Love is meant for us to find our true partner, making smooth life’s path. We don’t have to be alone. Yes, we are not meant to struggle through life alone. Still, here we are. We are often left wondering what the deal is here as we are alone. We are start to find fault with ourselves, criticizing ourselves that we must be the problem, have a problem as love isn’t hard. Love shouldn’t be so hard. The truth is real love, not the first love, the kind where fireworks happen every day, the kind where we get butterflies, the kind where we can’t stand to spend 5 minutes apart, but real love is work. Love is determining that no matter what the problems are, we will survive, love will last. We want it to be easy. We want it to be like instant coffee,, instant oatmeal, instant high speed internet. No struggles, no work, just love forever. The truth is, Love is amazing. When we have to wait, when he/she hasn’t come back yet, we are learning lessons. Oh Deb, I’ve learned lessons. I’ve hurt for years. Yet in the marriage ceremony, the words often say, I promise to love, cherish, in sickness, in health, in richer, in poor, for better , for worse, forever. So the higher power tests us a bit before we get to that altar, that pasture, that chapel. Love is commitment, Love is steadfast, Love is not selfish, Love is well what better words than this: “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
8 Love never fails.” I cor 13: 4-8
Animal totem: Snake: Bro Snake is loved/hated at the same time. He is admired/feared in extreme ways by most people. Very powerful, he slides easily through the rough paths of the world, as well as swims easily through high troubled waters. As he sheds his skin, transformation to the new beginnings is part of his medicine, wisdom of Mother earth as well. Passion, excitement fire element, we often think of romantic love along with this totem. Snake reminds us to shed the old ways, the old feelings, to new beginnings.
