The only thing we have to fear is fear itself. Franklin D. Roosevelt
Only when we are no longer afraid do we begin to live. Dorothy Thompson
There’s a monster in the corner, big, black, dark We see him as children, he remains in our hearts We walk out into our world, we see him standing there He seems to get bigger, with every moment’s care We have built him from insecurities, we’ve drawn him with our needs He is our fear, our doubts, our pains He lives our storms, our rains, Yet Suddenly the sun comes out Scattered light, truth to our doubts, giving us the hope we dare to believe. There is Sun, There is Light, There is stomping out the monsters of our nights. There is Hope, There is light, There is dreams we can win tonight. There is joy, there is light, there is wonders that are might! Leaving the fear behind, here is hope. – deborahmills (c) 2015
Our mothers came to us to chase the monsters we saw in our nights. She chased the big, black, dark scary thing from out of our closets, out from under the bed, even leaving a light on in the hall to that we could see this entity was only our own fears. Fear is our worse enemy. We, even as adults, tend to build our fears, our insecurities, our doubts even bigger creating a big scary dark monster in our lives, that with one bit of light we can blow away. Getting down deep into our souls, we often find it hard to let go of the fear. This ability sometimes seems as some people not us are just given this talent, this gift to dive into rough waters, unknown terrain, but in reality, the gift comes from much trial, error. I have a horror of the high dive at swimming pools. Normally I am fine on roofs, ( once I worked on the top of an 8 story building tarring a roof in Florida for 1 day, the height didn’t bother me, but Well that is hard work folks! won’t happen again in this lifetime) in elevators, but the high dive is different. I have been known to go back down the ladder much to the dismay of the people behind me. with much reaching deep down into my spirit, gritting of my teeth, now I will make myself go up, jump off, just to prove to myself I can. I can beat the dark monster standing there telling me I can’t. We can all jump into our dreams, beating Mr. Monster off, sending him into the Light. Dream on, dream big, Dream.
animal totems: Mockingbird: Sister Mockingbird has no fear. She actually doesn’t build her own nest but will use deserted old nests of other species of birds. This totem is well known as speaking with the tongues of other types of birds. She doesn’t have a language of her own, hence the name mockingbird. Once in this nest though, she is quite fearless in defending her right to be there. She dives, screams, yells in the other’s own language stay away! She keeps her dreams alive no matter who tries to tell her to fear. Her totem reminds us to face our fears head on while her medicine shares with us to stand firm on our dreams.
