Become a possibilitarian No matter how dark things seem to be or actually are, raise your sights and see possibilities – always see them, for they’re always there. ~Norman Vincent Peal

Wisdom is the reward you get for a lifetime of listening when you’d have preferred to talk.  ~Doug Larson

The entire group stopped at the front of the dojang.  Taking off the shoes,  bowing toward the flags, the master, filing in quietly without  a word, we lined up ready for our class of Tae Kwon Do.  Even having a red belt, such as I do, the master held complete control, attention over the entire crowd, even lesser black belts.   See, Master Don, was well, just that, the master.  Many times the practices of being quiet, of listening instead of talking, or trying to explain to him why we didn’t practice  the night before, or show up on time for class may see useless, or insensitive to us, but the Master understands in order to be really good at this martial art, we must be disciplined.  In the Karate Kid, Mater Miyagi, has this kid do all sorts of odd things, like wash the car in circular motions, odd jobs, ( 1984 Disney).   Of course, the young boy didn’t understand why, but in the end, the reasons, the discipline made absolute sense.  Many times, we enter a new job, or a business, or yes, even a new relationship, we are so ready to change the world, we don’t stop to think perhaps we should just shut up, listen.  We may learn something.  We get sick, we go to the doctor,  we most often will take his advice, listen to what he/she says.  Yes, there are times we go home, research seek other counsel, but most often we do listen.  Take the physician’s word under advisement .  In relationships, we talk to our friends, the neighbors, we fail to look to see if perhaps we are listening to others whose lives have been driven into the ditch.   Our own lives are in the ditch, but we most often decide to follow our own ways, of course, we don’t want to change who we are, then wonder what Is wrong.  Our lives aren’t changing, aren’t getting any better, but we do not see, that we are not listening.  Possibilities are there to be won, to be achieved, to just reach out to be blessed.  Yet perhaps we are talking over spirit’s voice, not listening.

Animal totems:  Raccoon:   Bro Raccoon often hides behind his mask.  Magickal, powerful, we can become anything we want to be, as long as no one knows who we truly are inside.   This is a powerful medicine this totem teaches us, that we can appear confident, appear without fear, until suddenly we really are unafraid, we can hear the other’s thoughts, ideas as well as our own.  Raccoon is a totem of transformation.  His medicine helps us change who we are to who we want to be .  His totem reminds us to not mask while his medicine shares with us to be gentle and playful when we can.
