Tarot Card of the Day – 2 of swords – swords are usually conflict cards which in not surprising right now, as Mercury is in retrograde. Swords are associated with the air element, also with the solar plexus chakra where intelligence lies. This card is most often considered a card of opposition or conflict, as the swords cut through the balance we try to create in our life. With this card coming today, we are being reminded that through conflicts, storms in our life, we can grow with change

Many people do not know much about the Tarot. There are several different theologies about the origin. Ancients magicians in Egyptian courts, believed that Thogh god of wise thoughts gave these to the people. These were given to help guide the paths to abundance, happiness. As the Romanian gypsies started migrating upward into Italy, and Northern Europe, these nomads brought along the Tarot. Many faith systems have declared them as “evil’, or from the “devil”, however in the 15th century, probably around 1442-1445, an unknown Franciscan Monk designed the deck we know of as Rider-Waite original for the Italian Prince Fillipe Maria Viscotti on his birthday. This deck has many Christian ideologies incorporated in it. There is a Devil , with the meaning of lies, lust, greed. There is a STrength which typically signifies angels around. Much of the translations of the card speaks of the Veil of Christ as well as other Catholic, and/or Christians theologies. Today many use the decks as a form of entertainment, often surprised at how the ideas formed can relate to day in and day out lives. If we can open our minds, much like reading the daily horoscope, or perhaps listening to a motivational speaker on TV, we can formulate pertinent plans in our lives.

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.Alan Watts

It may be hard for an egg to turn into a bird: it would be a jolly sight harder for it to learn to fly while remaining an egg. We are like eggs at present. And you cannot go on indefinitely being just an ordinary, decent egg. We must be hatched or go bad. C. S. Lewis

The hawk soars against the calm blue sky reaching into the golden light of the sun,Father Sol. His wings ( wingspan of 45-52 inches ) spread out as wide as the rays of light streaming down through the green leaves of Bro Oak, mighty strong, powerful tree. Bro Hawk carries the wisdom of the gods, the power of the ancients, the glory of the universe as he continues the journey to the Other Side high above the mountains. Hard to believe at one time, not so very long ago, this majestic creature was a hard- shelled egg. Mother Hawk laid the eggs in her nest hidden in the tops of the mountain rocks, these babies are in the shell for 28-35 days, then taking 2 -4 days to actually hatch. Wow, how impressive is the fact that great of a change, the struggle to wiggle out of the hardness can bring such beauty, such power, such strength. Here we learn that our shells, our walls, as we struggle to get out of them, we can achieve the greatness, the power, the heights, the dreams we long so for. Yesterday as I visited the cemetary to walk among past family, friends, I kept hearing, the storms will make you strong. Ha, I thought but then waking to yet another torrent of rain with the flashing of the lightening, the roar of the thunder in the distance, I saw the power, the glory. As i came to see the center of the storm, Father Sol, the sun, came out to clear the skies, as I watch Bro Hawk, lazily, smoothly gliding once more to the highest heights toward the dreams

animal totems: Hawk- Bro Hawk totem reminds us of the struggles of baby bird from the beginning of his life. Hawk egg is harder than most as being nested among the rocks of the mountains, even after leaving the comfort of egg, baby bird has harder places to fall. His totem reminds us of struggles, of breaking of walls, will bring about the glory, the energy, the strength , the power we need. His medcine reminds us that he is messenger from the gods, reminding us that many will watch our struggles, learning from our strength in times of hard places.

Our world is harsh. We just passed another anniversary of the 9/11 attack, we have ISIS, unemployment, the list goes on, of terror, fear, anguish, doubt. We step out into the world each day thinking what else can go wrong, as yesterday wasn’t that great either. The fear, the anger in almost palpable, the anguish so real, our hearts, our body aches with the pain. Another song I thought of this morning ” Oh I’ve seen fire, I’ve seen rain, I’ve seen sunny days that I thought would never end. I’ve seen lonely times when i could not find a friend…” – writers: Angela Hunt-Taylor, James Taylor. We wonder how we can manage to pull ourselves back up yet again another day. Even our arms, our legs feel heavy with the weight of the world on our shoulders. Then we struggle to get through our morning meditations, petitions, afffirmations of positive thoughts, thinking we must be crazy, we must have lost our mind to feel that if we are so alone, there is nothing more out there. We cry for help every day, almost screaming at the gods, the heavens, we can bear no more pain, then as we determine not to let the darkness completely take over, a light occurs. We reach out into the fog, to feel our way to find that one patch of sunlight flooding through the dark clouds to touch our souls, to find our way. We know we have to surround ourselves with someone positive, just one person, so we go searching. We find we need to remember that WE are that one positive person. WE are that one light for others to see. WE are the one who can give us happiness. WE are the shiny happy people of the world.

animal totems: on some Sat mornings I love Walker, Texas Ranger. He uses meditations, visions, animals in most of his shows, the Native American way of life. On this morning, Rattlesnake bit him. One of the side effects of this totems’ poison is hallucinations, which reminds us of the power of visions. Sister rattlesnake is powerful. One of the best hunter of the snake family, she knows when to be quiet, when to wait. Her medicine reminds us to be silent in the face of danger, giving ourselves time to be smart, to make wise decisions instead of impulsive. As with all snakes, the ability to shed the old dead, useless junk to renew every day.  Many fear the totem of Sister Rattlesnake but when we accept her power, there is much good mojo and magick.
