Let your hopes, not your hurts, shape your future. Robert H. Schuller
My great hope is to laugh as much as I cry; to get my work done and try to love somebody and have the courage to accept the love in return. Maya Angelou
Grandaddy walked the lane every day, back home from his job at the railways. Around that time that he would show, we’d run to the edge of the drive as we would always know, that he brought bubble gum in his overall jeans, mysteriously from our ear to be seen. His shock of white hair, the wind in the air, Susie piggied his back, while the rest of us slacked behind. The train stories he told, of hobos running off, to lands to behold, these memories will come again by and by, the sweet southern songs the Lullabies, of childhood we long to return, the fire we long to burn, the joy, the peace the happiness, we see as we can rest in hope – deborahmills © 2016 Southern Lullabies
Past memories I’m trying to bring to mind’s eye, of my youth in the south, in my poetry books, in the books I write, hoping with words to allow each person who reads them to “see” what I see about memories, about old hurts, about old good rememberings, that can not bog us down, drowning in our past, but to change the way we think about the future. We are not stuck. We can move forward happily toward hope, toward the future. How we remember the past is how we shape today. Look for the good in each step, even in the hurts, the chaos, see how we solved the problems, and utilize those memories to establish the changes for today. So ask me how so often I stay positive. I don’t. I just work hard every morning to look at yesterday, write the good memories down, until my mind takes over to see the goodness of the new day. Keep two journals – one to write all the hurts, angers, but then keep a different journal to write at least 10 good things about today. Someday we will find we each have a story, we each have a song of Lullabies.
